Don’t Quit!
by John Loor, Jr.

Many years ago as a youth director in a conference, I became overwhelmed with all the responsibilities I thought I had to carry.  Several dear friends sent me a message that I would like to share with you.  It’s entitled:  “Don’t Quit”

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low, and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit! . . .

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out,
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow,
You may succeed with another blow.

Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far.

So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit,
It’s when things seem worse,
That you must not quit.

You are where you are as a leader, as a member of the church because the Lord has called you for a purpose.  The greatest thing the devil wants to do is discourage you.  If you are battling discouragement at this time for whatever reason, and you want to quit the task or assignment that God has given you, here are some precious gems.

“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 1:6

“Be not afraid nor dismayed. . . for the battle is not yours, but God’s.”  2 Chronicles 20:15

“Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and of good courage:  do not be afraid or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”  Joshua 1:9

And finally, in Steps to Christ, page 70, there is this beautiful statement.  “A life in Christ is a life of restfulness.  There may be no ecstasy of feeling, but there should be an abiding, peaceful trust.  Your hope is not in yourself; it is in Christ.  Your weakness is united to His strength, your ignorance to His wisdom, your frailty to His enduring might.”

What a message for each of us!  Don’t quit!  Just keep hanging in there and you will succeed.  God will see you through to the end.
